Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I Know If I Need Counselling?

Counselling is suitable for people experiencing any kind of complex or simple issue, from depression to bereavement to anxiety, as well as those who feel generally unsatisfied and can’t put their finger on the reason why. No matter how big or small your problem may be, counselling is a chance to explore yourself in your current life situation and gain more clarity and direction. The aim is to gain skills in observing yourself mindfully in the present moment without self-judgement, giving yourself the ability to respond deliberately and consciously, rather than react on impulse.

Is Counselling Confidential?

Of course! Apart from a few safeguarding/legal exceptions, what you say during sessions is completely privileged and won’t leave the counselling room. This is your safe space to speak freely without fear of judgement.

How Often Should I Have Sessions?

Usually, I see clients once a week, as this allows for a sense of continuity and ensures we develop a strong therapeutic relationship. However, if you prefer, I can do fortnightly sessions.

Can I Speak To You Before My First Appointment?

Yes, you can! I know that reaching out for counselling and Gestalt therapy can be a bit daunting, which is why I always offer a free 15-minute consultation over Zoom before jumping into sessions proper, giving you the chance to ask any questions, reflect and consider first for a few days before you decide whether to proceed.

What Happens During Counselling?

You are invited into my cosy counselling room online at a time that suits you, where you’ll be given the floor to speak about whatever issue feels most important to you, with me listening closely to what you say and encouraging you to explore all aspects of your problems as you see them. We will gradually work together to increase awareness of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours in the here and now, ultimately giving you more choice in how you mindfully respond or experience yourself in your life situation.

How Do I Pay for Counselling Sessions?

You pay for each session by bank transfer only, at least 24 hours beforehand. If you need to cancel an appointment, please give me at least 48 hours’ notice, otherwise you’ll have to pay for the session in full.
